Need something to read on a dark and stormy night?
Awake at Midnight is a compendium of the best in children’s and young adult horror, including book reviews, author interviews, and the latest news from the cutting edge of fear.
If John Bellairs scarred you for life as a child, join us in sharing fireside ghost stories. Enter the dark cellar where we whisper about werewolves and the harvest moon, zombies hungry for human flesh, the romantic curse of the undead vampires, the little dark-haired witch girl with pointy shoes, or the spirit writhing with hate that followed you home from the cemetery.
This a family site, so you will not be shocked by gruesome images on our pages, but we do review books that deal with horrifying material. We believe that young adult books offer much more creativity and imagination than many formulaic adult novels, and may be more shocking in content than books targeted for adults.
We focus on books geared toward young readers, from children’s picture books, mid-grade mysteries, and young adult thrillers to supernatural teen horror. On occasion, we blur the lines. We include illustrators and artwork when their oeuvre falls into the realm of darkness, and we feature movies geared toward 10-18 year old audiences.
